Scientists have determined that lions may have originated about 120,000 years ago based on their evolutionary trajectory. About 21,000 years ago, lions began to leave Africa, reaching as far as India and other places in Asia.

Many people's impression of the lion's living environment comes from the cartoon "The Lion King". On the endless grassland, a male lion crouches on the top of a huge granite rock, overlooking his vast territory.

In fact, the living environment of lions is rich and diverse. In addition to grasslands, there are traces of lion activity in forests, swamps, bushes, Gobi, hills, and even deserts. Different living environments have created different appearances and behaviors of lions.

How to Draw a Lion Face Step by Step

Step 1 Draw the top of the lion's head

First draw the outline of the top of the lion's head. As we all know, lions are covered in fur, so we are going to draw the effect of fur.

Through observation, we can find that the top of the lion's head is symmetrical. You can draw the left half of it first and then finish the right half.

Step 2 Draw the outline of this lion head

In the previous step we have already drawn the top of the head. Next draw the sides and bottom of the head to get the outline of the head.

We can see that what we need to draw in this step is also symmetrical, and we also need to draw the effect of fur

Step 3 Draw one ear of the lion

In the top left corner of this lion's head outline, draw a straight line from top right to bottom left. Then draw a circle to connect the two ends of this line to get the outline of an ear.

Draw another slightly smaller circle on this ear to get the inner ear of this ear.

Compared to the lion's head, the ears are not too big.

Step 4 Draw the other ear of the lion

We have already drawn an ear in the previous step. Now in a similar way, draw another ear on the right.

The ears are symmetrical and look like broken plates.

Step 5 Draw the outline of the lion's face

Draw a horizontal line between the two ears. Draw a diagonal line to the lower left of this line and connect them with a curved line. The same goes for the bottom right.

The two diagonal lines drawn are symmetrical. If you connect their ends with a horizontal line, you get a shape close to a trapezoid.

Now draw a curved line connecting the bottoms of the two diagonal lines to get the outline of the lion's face.

Step 6 Draw the eyebrows and eyes of this lion

You can draw a centered horizontal line on the face as a guideline, don't make it too obvious.

Draw the outline of the eye on the left above this guideline, which is a circle. Inside this circle draw a small circle and a triangle.

In the same way, draw the eye on the right. Notice the placement of the triangles in the two eyes.

After drawing the eyes, draw a diagonal line above each eye for the eyebrows.

Step 7 Draw the lion's nose

Draw a trapezoid between the two eyes without drawing its bottom edge. The top edge of the trapezoid is higher than the lion's eyebrows.

Draw an inverted triangle at the bottom of this trapezoid. Every edge of it is a curve. This is how you get the lion's nose.

Step 8 Draw the lion's mouth

Draw a large circle on the face, past the top edge of the inverted triangle.

Draw a short vertical line just below the nose. Then draw a horizontal curved line at the bottom of this line to get the lion's mouth.

Step 9 Color this lion face

The lion's hair is short and the body color is light gray, yellow or brown. Male lions also have very long manes, which are light brown, dark brown, black and so on. Its nose is black.

Lion species

1. The lion on the grassland

Lions on grasslands sleep more than 20 hours a day. Most of the time, they are as quiet as a piece of bacon, sleeping soundly without moving, only active for about an hour in the cool time of night.

Steppe lions are accustomed to hunting at night, and the peak hunting period is from 2:00 to 4:00 in the morning. Because there are few shelters on the grassland during the day, it is difficult to successfully hide themselves, and after night falls, it is difficult for herbivores to spot the lions.

The hunting method of grassland lions is generally to ambush where there is water, and suddenly rush out to capture the prey when it drinks water.

The main food of grassland lions is zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, warthog, etc.

2. The lion in the jungle

The lion in the jungle sleeps less than the lion in the grassland and more than the lion in the desert. They hunt at any time of day, whenever the opportunity presents itself. Because in the jungle, the lion has a lot of cover, and it does not need to wait until night to start its action.

The peak hunting period for lions in the jungle is from 8 to 10 in the morning and 3 to 4 in the afternoon. The main prey of lions in the jungle are zebras, buffaloes and antelopes. Lions in the jungles of southern Africa, there are records of attacking elephants!

3. The lion in the desert

The number and size of lions in the desert is the smallest, and they are mainly distributed in southwestern Africa, such as the Kalahari Desert.

The living environment of lions in the desert is harsh and food is scarce, so their territory is very large, up to 100 square kilometers. The lions in the grasslands and the lions in the jungle have a territory of 10 to 40 square kilometers.

The lions in the desert sleep the least, and they spend 6 to 7 hours a day moving around looking for a few prey. The main food of lions in the desert is zebra, giraffe, water buffalo, longhorn and so on.
