Sunset is the process of the sun slowly descending below the horizon. The time of sunset varies with the season and the latitude of each place. The sun's light is refracted by the Earth's atmosphere, so the sun can still be seen after it has dropped below the horizon, an illusion that people have at sunset every day.

At sunset, the sun's light is scattered due to the influence of the earth's atmosphere, so the sky is usually filled with red clouds at this time. Sunsets tend to be brighter than sunrises because the atmosphere is exposed to sunlight throughout the day.

How to Draw a Sunset Step by Step

Step 1 Draw the leaves of a coconut tree

The leaves of the coconut tree are like feathers, which are very large and can be as long as 3-4 meters.

Draw the leaf on the left first. It consists of a straight line sloping to the left and a nearly horizontal curve.

Then draw two other leaves to the right of this leaf. You need to pay attention to the orientation of the two leaves.

Step 2 Draw the other leaves of this coconut tree

Draw five more leaves below the already drawn leaves.

The two leaves on the right are the largest. The three leaves on the left gradually become smaller in order from left to right.

You need to notice that there is a gap to the left of the leftmost leaf, through which the trunk will be drawn in the next step.

Step 3 Draw the trunk of this coconut tree

Let's look at the first leaf we drew in the first step. Starting at its bottom, draw a smooth curve towards the bottom left.

Start again with the leftmost leaf drawn in the previous step, and draw a smooth curve towards the bottom left as well. This is how you get the trunk of this coconut tree.

At the end of the first curve, draw a short horizontal line to the left.

Step 4 Draw the shore on the left side of the picture

Let's look at this shore first. It looks like a twisted "M" and rotated 90 degrees to the right.

Starting at the bottom of the right edge of the trunk, draw a curved line towards the bottom right. Then draw a straight line from the end of this curve towards the lower left.

From the end of this straight line, draw a smooth curve towards the bottom right. Finally draw a straight line from left to right to connect the end of this curve.

Step 5 Draw the skyline and sun

Draw a horizontal line to get the skyline. It should be slightly higher than the bottom of the already drawn coconut tree. And as you can see, a small gap is left near its right end.

About halfway down this skyline, draw a circle above it to get the sun.

Don't draw this sun too big or too small. And also no need to draw the part of it below the skyline.

Step 6 Draw the seabirds and the leaves of a coconut tree

In a similar way to the first step, draw the three leaves of another coconut tree on the right side of this drawing.

You will find that these three leaves are mirror images of the leaves we drew in the first step, but they are slightly larger.

Then draw two seabirds in flight to the upper right of the sun.

Step 7 Add the rest of the leaves of the coconut tree

Draw the rest of the leaves of this coconut tree. These five leaves are also mirror images of the leaves we drew in the second step, and of course they should be larger.

So far we have completed the leaves of the coconut tree on the right. Next we are going to draw its trunk and the rest of the elements of the drawing.

Step 8 Draw the trunk, shore and ocean

Draw two smooth curved lines to the lower right from the already drawn leaves to get the trunk. The bottom of this trunk is lower than the coconut tree on the left.

At the bottom of the coconut tree, draw the shore in a similar way to step 4.

Draw a shape that resembles steps below the sun. These are the reflections of sunlight on the sea.

Step 9 Color this sunset

At sunset, the sky is usually red and orange. The color of sunsets can be enhanced by atmospheric phenomena such as natural clouds, smoke and fog, and man-made exhaust gases.
