How to Draw Chinese New Year

The Spring Festival, commonly known as "Chinese New Year", is the most solemn and lively traditional festival in China. The Chinese celebrate the Spring Festival with a history of more than 4,000 years.

The Spring Festival is here, which means that spring is coming, the recovery of vegetation in Vientiane is renewed, and a new round of sowing and harvesting seasons will begin again.

For thousands of years, people have made the Chinese New Year celebrations extremely colorful. Every household prepares goods for the New Year, and also prepares some gifts for visiting relatives and friends during the Chinese New Year.

The Spring Festival is a joyful and peaceful festival, and it is also a day for family reunions. People who are away from home have to go home for a happy reunion during the Spring Festival. When the first rooster crows, or the New Year's bell rings, firecrackers are fired in the streets, and the new year begins.

According to legend, Nian is an animal that brings bad luck to people. Then how can we drive Nian away? We need to use firecrackers to scare it away, so the Chinese have the custom of burning firecrackers.

Step 1 Draw the little boy's hat

We will draw this cute little boy in order from top to bottom. First up is his cute warm hat.

Start by drawing a shape that resembles a cloud. Then add a line inside it. This is the pompom on top of this hat.

Draw a smooth curved line from the left side of this "cloud" to the bottom left. Then draw a curved line from its right side to the bottom right.

So far, we have drawn the outline of this winter warm hat. Next you just need to add the brim to it.

Step 2 Draw the brim of this hat

In the previous step, we drew two downward curved lines for the outline of the hat. Now draw a wavy line connecting their bottom ends.

Below this wavy line, along it, without being precise, draw another wavy line of about the same length.

Add two short lines and connect the ends of the two wavy lines separately to complete the brim of the hat.

A cute winter hat is complete. You can add it on top of any winter character.

Step 3 Outline the little boy's head

In this step, we will first draw the outline of the little boy's head. Then draw his ears and a sideburn.

Draw a right-sloping "U" shape at the bottom of the hat we've already drawn. Leave a gap to the right of it.

Draw a mirrored "C" shape in this gap, and draw two intersecting curved lines inside. This completes an ear. Then draw another ear on the other side of the head.

Draw a curved line down from the bottom of the hat to the right ear. This completes the little boy's right sideburn.

Step 4 Draw the face of the little boy

If a line were drawn connecting the tops of the two ears of this little boy, his eyes would be approximately on that line.

Draw two ovals of the same size on the face of this little boy, and they are vertical. These are his eyes.

In the middle of the eye, a little lower, draw a short curved line that slopes to the right.

Draw a "U" shape below this curve to connect the two ends of this curve. This completes the little boy's mouth.

Step 5 Draw the little boy's arm

At the bottom of the head, draw a curved line from left to right. Then draw a ribbon shape to the right at the right end of it. This is the little boy's scarf.

Draw a sleeve at the bottom of this scarf and add a line from top to bottom on this sleeve to get a cuff.

On the left end of this sleeve, draw an almost oval shape. You can think of it as a warming glove.

Draw another arm on top of this arm in a similar way. The little boy's hands are extended in the same direction.

Step 6 Draw the little boy's body and firecrackers

At the bottom of the lower sleeve, draw the little boy's clothes—a cute padded jacket.

Add two small ovals as buttons to this padded jacket. Then add a strip to the right part of the padded jacket as a pocket.

Take a point on the upper left of the head. From this point draw a straight line and to the bottom right to reach the hands. This is a bamboo pole used to hang firecrackers.

Draw a pair of wing-like shapes on top of that bamboo pole. Then draw a string of firecrackers down from the top of the bamboo pole.

Step 7 Draw the little boy's legs

In this step, we will first draw the right leg of the little boy, and then add another leg. This will be more convenient.

Draw a smooth curved line from the bottom of the padded jacket to the lower right. Then next to it, add another line along it.

Connect the bottom ends of these two curves with a straight line. Then above this line, add a curved line to this pant leg.

In a similar way, draw two curved lines from the bottom of the padded jacket to the bottom left. Then connect their bottom ends with a straight line, and add another curved line.

Step 8 Draw the little boy's shoes and snowflakes

In the previous step, we have already drawn the two trouser legs of the little boy. Here we will draw his shoes.

Draw a straight line down the right edge of the left pant leg. Then draw a line from the bottom of the left edge of the pant leg to the left and then to the bottom right to connect the bottom of that straight line.

In a similar way, draw another shoe for the little boy who celebrates the Chinese New Year at the bottom of the pant leg on the right.

Finally, we draw some nice snowflakes on this drawing. You can start by drawing a big dot and add some clockwise curves around it to get a snowflake.
